This reminds me of what I consider the glory days of skateboarding - the late 90s. Just friends having fun skating. Even though these guys are super sick skaters, it's actually not the most important aspect. It's just a fun, expressive film of skating. No athletic training camps, no contest vibes, no fucking mega corporations exploiting and capitalizing on anything and everything. Just playful skating from a group who happens to also be insanely talented on their boards. I know there are kids skating these days who are just having fun, but I think there are fewer and fewer who aren't negatively influenced by the increasing sense of competition and archiving that the abundance of personal cameras today provides. We used to go to a spot with NO way of filming anything, and still have fun and risk injury. I broke my wrist twice skating with nobody filming or anything, we were just having fun and I happened to eat shit a few times. But that's all it was. No exploitation, no posting it for dopamine hits. I still go to skate parks but there's so much more self-consciousness with everyone filming everything now. Kudos to any skaters today that aren't distracted and seduced by turning everything they do into an ego-driven and soulless feat and who are in it for fun and self expression as their only priorities - which is what we seem to have here. Amazing film, thanks for being artists and not just athletes.
